Love
For most of us, our earliest memories of Valentine’s Day would be the classroom party in elementary school and the exchange of “penny valentines.” Or perhaps it would be the still-popular “conversation hearts” candy. Of course the once handmade valentines are the exception, and card companies, chocolatiers, jewelers , and florists do a booming business. Nor is Valentine’s Day just for romance. It is fun to remember family and friends on this special day.
The beginnings of Valentine’s Day go back nearly 2000 years but rather than bore you with an historical treatise, I’d like to remind you of the words of the popular Dionne Warwick song “What the World Needs Now”.
“What The World Needs Now Is Love”
(originally by Jackie DeShannon)
Dionne Warwick lyrics
What the world needs now is love sweet love,
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of.
What the world needs now is love sweet love,
No not just for some but for everyone.
Truer words were never spoken:
