Word association: if I say “Buffalo,” what do you think of first? Probably “snow” after hearing about the 8 feet of snow that fell there last week. Did you see the pictures on TV? Snow up to second story windows? Buffalo is used to snow, but maybe not that much.

So what does Buffalo have to do with gratitude? Well, it was the winter of either 1977 or 1978, and Buffalo was having a year of huge snowstorms, sometimes several a week. I was teaching in the ghetto and had the worst class ever. By March when I pulled into the school parking lot, I would sit in my parking space and just pray that I could walk in there and survive yet another day. On one particular day, I just sat there in my car, listening to the radio, and gathering my courage, when the news came on of yet ANOTHER snowstorm in Buffalo. As I heard that news I said, “At least I don’t live in Buffalo!”

About twofelines

What to say? I love my family and friends. I also love kids, cats, and books. Oh, and potato chips and Cheez-its. I am a retired teacher who still loves to be in the classroom, so now I am a substitute teacher.
