Eventually … Sitting on a side street, waiting many minutes to get out on Rte. 1 in Maine on a summer Sunday afternoon : “I’m going to be sitting here all day!” Then I remember: no, eventually I will get out.
Either…or … Agonizing over a situation… Then I realize either it will or it won’t happen (Learned this strategy from Stephen; thanks.)
Oh well… I forgot to pick up the milk . The newspaper got wet… Oh well!
Whatever … When presented with a choice that truly doesn’t matter: Whatever!
We’ll see… Don’t want to make a decision right now? Just say, “We’ll see.”
Ah… Other person thinks they are right about a fact; you think you’re right. They check and confirm your answer. Ah… is all you need to say.
So why then does the popular “It is what it is!” drive me crazy? Took me a while to figure it out, but it’s because it denotes surrender. And sure there are things you can’t do anything about, but I often feel that if I or others just tried hard enough, in many cases we could change the situation.
